Ballymacelligott All-Ireland Winners
Kerry's first All-Ireland victory came in 1903 when they defeated Kildare at the third attempt. Ballymac man, Denny Curran played a vital role in the victory, scoring a point at a crucial stage of the game. Denny went on to win his second medal in 1904 when Kerry defeated Dublin by 0 - 5 to 0 -2 in the final.
Con Clifford played with Kerry in 1913 when they defeated Wexford in the final by 2 - 2 to 0 - 3. Kerry played Wexford again in the 1914 final. Con had a memorable game on that occasion. He scored Kerry's only score, a point, in the first half. Kerry were lucky to draw that day, but, got the better of Wexford in the replay.
Phil O'Sullivan captained Kerry when they defeated Dublin in the 1924 final. Phil, who was a native of Tuosist, was a teacher in O'Brennan N.S. and played all his football with Ballymac. He played a very sound game in the backline in 1924 final and nothing could pass him that day. Unfortunately he missed the 1926 final through injury.
John Baily from Rathanny and his brother Jim were on the Kerry team which beat Dublin 0 - 4 to 0 - 3 in the 1924 final. John scored a vital point in that final.
Jim Baily won three All-Ireland medals with Kerry in 1924, 1926 and 1929. Had there been All-Star Awards in those days, Jim would surely have been a recipient. Jim brought fame and glory to Kerry and Ballymac with his wonderful opportunist displays at cornerforward. He was noted for his great class and wonderful anticipation.
Pat
Clifford was a member of the 1926 Kerry
team which beat
Kildare in a replay. Pat played at right-corner back
and was lauded in 'The Kerryman' after that game
for his great display and sound defensive work.
John 'Gal' Slattery was also a member of the 1926 team, playing at left half back. John, who was from Carrignafeela, combined well with Paul Russell and Jerry Moriarty to give Kerry a very sound half back line
