Ballymacelligott GAA Club notes: 4th April 2004

Every team trains and works hard all year to reach a final. Our Minor team are no exception with hard work put in by mentors and players alike during the past few months. This week we see our minors play in the Tralee District Board Final when they play Kerins O’Rahillys on Easter Monday. The venue is John Mitchel’s pitch Easter Monday at 4.00pm. On Friday night at 7.00pm they play Milltown /Castlemaine in Milltown in Round 2 of County League. On Saturday, our senior team play Waterville at home in the Senior League, at 7.00pm. All in all it is a very busy weekend for football and that is what the club is about. We hope all our teams get great support at their games all weekend.

Senior.
Our next Senior County League game is at home to Waterville on Saturday 10 th April at 7.00pm. All your support is vital for this crucial home game.
In the Tralee District Board semi final our senior team lost to Kerins O’Rahillys on Sunday last. Playing conditions were not good and the final score was: Kerins O’Rahillys 2-7 to Ballymac 2-5

Minors:
This past week and next week are crucial weeks for our Minor Team. All your support would mean a lot to the players especially in the Tralee District Final on Easter Monday. On Tuesday night Castleisland Desmonds defeated our Minors in the semi-final of the St Kieran’s League. The final score was Desmonds 12 points Ballymac 1-8.
On Friday night we faced Dingle in a very competitive first round game of Division 2 of the County League. The first half was an even enough half and score at half time score was Ballymac 0-5 to Dingle 0-6. The second half saw Dingle run away with the game and with fifteen minutes to go Ballymac were eight points down. However our team led by captain Gene Griffin showed great determination and composure in coming back and getting a string of vital scores to level the game. The final score was: Ballymac 2-10 Dingle 1-13.The team was: Stephen Casey, Padraig Kerins, Tomas Dunne, Brian Sugrue, Liam Thompson, Diarmuid Casey, Tadhg Landers, Eoin Nelligan, Tim Prendiville, Michael Leen, Gene Griffin (Capt), Gary O’Connor, Padraig McCarthy, Kevin O’Shea, and Aidan O’Connor. Subs: Shane Twomey, Pat Carmody, John Carmody and Colin McSwiney.
Minor Games this week :

  • Friday 9 th April Milltown/Castlemaine V Ballymac in Milltown at 7.00pm in Round 2 of Division 2 of County League
  • Monday 12 th April Ballymac V Kerins O’Rahillys in the Final of Tralee District Board Minor League. Game at 4.00pm in Boherbee.

We wish Tomas Dunne a speedy recovery following his injury on Friday night last.

U16 Team
Our Under 16 team had a busy week with a game on Wednesday night against Knocknagoshel/Brosna which they won and on Saturday evening last they drew with Churchill in the Tralee District Board league. Wednesday evening’s game was very even up to half time. At half time Ballymac was trailing by two points. However after the break our team played some fine football and went on to win the game well.
On Saturday evening Churchill got a last minute penalty to draw level with us. This week our U16s have the following games:

  • Wednesday 7 th April Cordal V Ballymac at 7.00pm in Cordal in Round 3 of Castleisland District League.
  • Saturday 10 th April Austin Stack V Ballymac in Connolly Park at 5.00pm.

U14 Team.
Our U14s had a busy week in their County League Campaign. On Monday night this young team travelled to Ardfert and played well to win the game. The final score was:
On Saturday evening they played at home when the opposition was Milltown/Castlemaine. This was a very close game from beginning to end and the game ended in a draw.
This weeks U14 games are:

  • Listowel V Ballymac on Monday 5 th April 7.00pm in Listowel.
  • Ballymac V Desmonds on Monday 12 th April 7.00pm at home.

U12 Training Begins
Training for our Under 12 team will continue on Sunday mornings at 11.00am

U8s and U10 training
Training for our Under 8s and Under 10s will commence on Easter Sunday morning at 11.00am. All children are asked to bring their registration forms fully completed to the field on that date the 11 th April. All boys and girls are welcome.

Sympathy
We extend our sympathy to Breda Sugrue on the death of her brother James Clifford last week.
